Special Points of Interest IACEE President's Corner 10th WCCEE IACEE World Conference on Continuing Engineering Education - Call for 2006/2008 Council/Officer Nominations - Articles of Interest to Continuing Engineering Education - Conferences |
I hope that everybody now has the dates of 19 21 April 2006 noted in their diaries and are planning to be in Vienna for the 10th WCCEE. A good number of abstracts have been received and the reviewing process is just starting to form the conference programme. However, although the submission date has passed, it is still possible to include a few additional papers, so can I give you every encouragement not to think it is too late, but to make the effort, move quickly, let the organisers know, then write and submit your abstract. Im sure Franz Reichl and his colleagues will then make every effort to include it in the programme. We are looking for a wide range of ideas and reports to make the conference as broad and interesting as possible. (Just to remind you full details can be found at http://www.wccee2006.org/). I am always thinking how, via this newsletter and other means, we can make our IACEE membership useful to one another. A recent experience made me think about reporting unusual snippets of work, which might be of interest to others. For example, I used to think that typically at least 8 or 10 participants would be needed for a successful CEE programme. However, I recently had an example of how it is possible to make a programme for a small group and still remain successful when my department was approached by a company who wanted to learn about recent developments in a specific field. We put together a unique 2-day programme that ultimately was attended by just 2 people. Crazy maybe, but the company was willing to fund it and the programme was a success, both academically and commercially. CEE needs to be responsive and adaptive. Maybe you have interesting examples to share. Please send an e-mail to IACEE headquarters at info@iacee.org.
