As we welcome the New Year of 2008 and look forward to making our own plans, it is surely appropriate to reflect on IACEE activities during the coming year. Most important of all of course is the coming 11th World Conference on Continuing Engineering Education, which will be held in Atlanta during 20 to 23 May. I know Bill Wepfer and his colleagues, both at Georgia Tech and at many other places, have been working hard to make the conference a success. I hope everybody is planning to come to what I am sure will be a stimulating and enjoyable occasion. Make sure you have it in your diaries! In February, at the ASEE Conference of Industry and Education Collaboration, which will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, there will be a meeting of the Executive Committee, which will enable us to explore and develop ideas to help the future of the organisation. I hope that as many members of the IACEE Council as possible will be able to attend. Not only will we hear about plans for the 11th WCCEE, but also about other activities. I am hoping that during 2008 two of the important items on which we have been working will become visible to more members. We have been working on the development of new www pages for the Association, through which I hope we will be able to offer improved information for members, and by having a degree of interactivity should help to overcome our geographical separation. Also some of us have been working on a project which will help CE centres assess their own activities and thereby find ways in which they could improve themselves. More details will become available on these activities later. I would like to encourage anybody with interests, thoughts, and views about the organisation or who would like to contribute to the discussion to contact me. During the Atlanta World Conference, the General Assembly of IACEE will be held. As part of this, there will be elections for the members to serve on the Council for the coming next two years until 2010. In trying to build a thriving organisation, it is important that we are able to call on as many people as possible, so think, maybe there is something that you can do to help. May I finish by sending my best wishes for a peaceful and successful 2008 to all IACEE members and readers of this newsletter, hoping to see many of you during the year. |
