Secretary General's Corner

Newly designed website. Past WCCEE proceedings and information. Membership lists. Project information. Member forums. This information and more is available to you on the IACEE web pages. In this newsletter, we are going to tell you a bit more about our website, which has areas available only to IACEE members. While some members have already registered, there are many of you who have not yet visited the site, www.iacee.org. I encourage you to visit the website and explore all of the new areas, with more coming monthly.

Another benefit about which some members are unaware, is that IACEE members who live outside of the USA and Canada are given complimentary Global Online Membership (GOM) in the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). On each membership invoice receipt, the GOM number is listed that is used to login to ASEE. GOM members receive all of the same benefits as regular ASEE members, only online.

As you can see, there are many wonderful benefits to IACEE membership. With your help, we will continue to add benefits to IACEE membership.

Items of Interest

IACEE Website
The IACEE website is up and running! While there are many areas open to the public, the forums, membership lists, and WCCEE proceedings are open only to members. The site is designed to be interactive and member-driven, with tutorials on how to register and login, along with others available upon registration (adding content, uploading files, creating a blog). With so many dynamic features, it is a terrific member tool for members.

In order to register, you will be asked for your name, a username, email, and password. When registering, it is important that you use the email listed in the IACEE membership database, as that is what is used to confirm membership. Upon activation of your membership (which will take up to 24 hours), you will have all member rights to add and edit your content, create a blog, participate in forums, etc. Should you have any questions or problems registering for the IACEE site, you should contact IACEE headquarters at info@iacee.org.

Focus on Members

IACEE has a vast diversity in its membership. In this month's newsletter, we will focus on two: Stanford University (an academic institutional member), and Flemming K. Fink (IACEE President). If you would like to be featured in this section, please contact us at info@iacee.org.

(
The information below was taken from a press release published at by Business Wire on September 17, 2008  -the full article is available at http://www.businesswire.com/news/google/20080917005182/en)

The Stanford School of Engineering today announced the debut of Stanford Engineering Everywhere (SEE), the pilot of a free online service that provides Stanfords popular introduction to computer science and other computer science and electrical engineering courses. Each consists of complete video lectures and materials such as handouts, assignments, exams and transcripts. With SEE, Stanford Engineering is releasing the courses under a Creative Commons license, explicitly encouraging educators and learners around the world to incorporate the video courses and materials into their educational endeavors and to form virtual communities around the classes.

We are excited to extend our teaching and learning opportunities worldwide through SEE, said Jim Plummer, dean of the Stanford Engineering School. We hope SEE will enable a broad range of people to learn, to share their ideas and to make their own contributions to knowledge.

The 10 courses, arranged in three subject areas, include one of Stanfords most popular sequences: the three-quarter introduction to computer science. SEE also offers three courses on artificial intelligence and robotics, and four on linear systems and optimization. The address for SEE is http://see.stanford.edu.

Andy DiPaolo, Executive Director & Senior Associate Dean of Stanford University's Center for Professional Development, serves on the IACEE Council as an Academic Institution Representative, and can be reached at adp@stanford.edu.
